Keep Your Plan!

How good is your word?

I mean, everyone takes a stand at some point but then something comes up. Whatever it is, it changes everything, right?

But, we’re only as good as our word, right? Yes, Until something changes. Then it’s not our fault. We’re only responsible for what we can control, if something beyond our reach alters our circumstances, then IT’s NOT OUR FAULT.

I know a lot of people. You know a lot of people. Do you know anyone who lies? I do. But if you asked every one of them if they lie, all of them would deny it. Right? No one admits to being dishonest. Don’t believe me? Just ask them!

It’s kind of funny, or real sad.
But, it seems there’s always a reason to justify our shifting positions.

So whose lying now?

I think most of us mean well, that is most of the time we have the best of intentions but sometimes things happen. And we change our positions. After all, nothing is certain, nothing lasts. It’s OK we say to ourselves or anyone listening. We couldn’t help it.

I understand.
I’m not judging. I do it too.

But if we really want to Reach a Resolution, well, we have to be true to our word. Yeah I know, it’s sometimes hard. Doing the right thing often is.

Take a look at the President. I’m sure he meant every word during his campaign and many speeches after his election talking about his vision for Obamacare. I believe he was sincere. He certainly sounded sincere. He wanted everyone to like his plan, so he reassured us….repeatedly.

Doesn’t matter if you support his policies or don’t. And, (equal opportunity critique on the opposite party) – remember the first Bush President – the “Read my lips” comment?

When you take a stand, you need to be true to your word. Because it’s on you. No one wants to hear the excuses, the government’s red tape, website misfire, or some faceless bureaucracy. Once you start backsliding, it’s over. Whatever trust you had built up, it falls away. And it’s hard to restore.

Don’t believe me? Talk to those people whose medical insurance plans were cancelled, talk to those who were recently told they couldn’t keep their doctors.. or their medical plans.

Who will they believe…now?

If you say it, you own it. That’s it. Done.

When we negotiate – at the bargaining table or in your life – all we really have going for us is our word.
It’s that important, that simple.

There’s always circumstances that changes the best laid pans.. For me if you really want to justify way you can’t do or do something, make a plan that will help you keep your word without lying. Make sure you don’t disappoint anyone . Be true to your word.
