10 things to do on the coldest day of the year

Like many, I had the day off yesterday from work. It was MLK day. It was cold.
I’m not kidding about the cold. We had a high of 1. One degree. Windchill of -20. And dropping.

So what can I do on a day like this?
There are a lot of things I can do.
I’m writing about things I want to do.
Why write them out?
It’s part of my daily routine.

I try to write down 10 ideas each day. Not to help me remember things – that would be a list. I do that as well.
This is a practice to help expand my mind. It forces me to think about, develop, or expand on – ideas.
Are they perfect pearls of wisdom? No, many (most) of them are quite the opposite.

So here goes.

My 10 things to do today, on the coldest day of the year.

1. Sleep in. This is too easy.

2. Get dressed. In multiple layers. And go out to the local pistol range. Target shooting. Man it was so cold. Outside and inside.

3. Call and check on my mom. OK, I didn’t call. I emailed my sister who is staying with her. Mom’s good.

4. Call – (rewrite that) – Email. Or better yet, text my kids. Make sure they’re OK. They all responded! Minor victory there. All are good. Me too. Still cold.

5. Meet Miechelle, Nico and Luca for lunch. Their choice, a chain restaurant (sigh) AND take them all to a local ice hockey game. Yes it was cold. I kept my coat on during the game. It was fun. (and cold) So much so, today Luca told me he had fun at the game but “Too bad you missed it Nanu!” What? He was sitting on my lap! He’s also 4.

6. Watch the Godfather. Again. I or II. Even III.

7. Prepare for the rest of the week. Check my schedules, appointments, travel plans. I spend the least amount of time on this one. I think temperature dropped again.

8. Sit in front of the fireplace. Finally! All bundled up. Added blanket. Getting warm. Asked my bride to snuggle on couch with me, before falling asleep. Apparently by myself. It’s already 6 p.m.

9. Wake up. It’s 10 p.m. Clear my thoughts. Have to get ready to go to bed. Soon. Is furnace on? Better check it. Need to do one more thing…

10. Start my planning to go away with Miechelle in celebration of our anniversary later this month. Like birthdays, I like to celebrate them all month long. Not feeling so cold now..

Done. Time to rest up.
Back to work tomorrow.

It’s still cold, cold, cold…..
