Crisis
We’re in one now.
No we’re not at war.
At least not with another country.
Maybe with each other.
Do you listen to the news?
I’ve stopped.
We’re facing one of the biggest crisis ever in our lifetime.
The coronavirus, COVID 19. It’s infecting entire countries.
Death toll is rising.
And yet?
Our leaders?
On the news of course. “I care more!”
Busy blaming the other side for showing no leadership!
They’re outraged.
Angry mad.
The President – He should have acted sooner!
Governors – They’re crippling the economy!
Congress – They spent the last week insulting each other, trying to pass a bill to help us.
It’s the same at the local level too.
In the meantime who’s looking out for you? Or me?
What’s the real priority?
Here’s a sample of what happened in my State.
A state leader decides to close all small businesses to save people.
It’s important to not spread the virus! Flatten the curve! Stay At Home!
OK, I get it.
Millions of people soon to be out of work, most are willing to sacrifice.
We’re told to stay at home, avoid other people. So we will.
But wait!
We also have an election coming up!
It’s a Primary election!
So then we’re told, “It’s your duty to vote!”
Chances are you won’t get infected being around others, handling ballots, touching ballot boxes.
We’ll be careful to clean after each person touches… well everything!
I, and everyone else, called it.
Turnout was very low. Smart folks stayed home.
If a different party was in charge, you’d hear cries of suppressing the vote.
So I ask, What’s most important?
Demonstrating how much more you really care by how angry you can get?
Getting elected?
Staying elected?
Oh, and maybe stopping the spread of the virus, too.
And Maybe, just maybe, even working together to solve this health crisis?
Should I still be worried?
I guess I’ll soon find out.
