Happen to catch the latest?
British comedian tells jokes about important people!
Yes, that’s right. He did.
On national TV, too.
Everyone in attendance was shocked.
And appalled.
How could he be so insensitive?
Already the network has found a new host for next year’s show, although to be fair the comedian did say he would not be hosting again.
Because he doesn’t care.
These were powerful, important people.
Although, I don’t think they’ve solved any of the world’s problems.
They do have a very important role:
They entertain.
That’s right.
They’re celebrities.
Their job is to make us want to be like them.
And in order to reach the height of stardom, they’re often faced with the herculean task of
remembering words someone else wrote.
I didn’t watch the telecast. I usually don’t see the award shows.
If I do it’s to see the comedians.
However, I did see the video of the monologue after I read the scathing critiques.
The link to the video is attached below.
My take? Some of the jokes were funny, some not so.
But the backlash? Some said, He must be some “right wing” apologist because he made fun of us!
I’m not making that up.
He’s not at all.
I guess we’ve come to a point in our society where:
We’re woke, you’re not.
Not interested in listening to your opinion if it contradicts our facts;
Free speech only applies to us, not you – unless you are on our side.
We’re too thin skinned to be the butt of jokes, and we don’t want to be exposed.
And we’re outraged about, well, everything.
We care more than you.
I guess this is why everything is so divided.
One thing lost in the backlash was that the comedian was doing what he was hired to do – tell jokes.
Maybe we’ve lost our sense of humor.
Or forgotten about that free speech thing.
JT
Like him or not, he just telling jokes.
