JKD?
Jeet Kune Do.
It’s the Way of the Intercepting Fist.
The martial art philosophy developed by Bruce Lee.
When I was in my MA class, we students learning of the JKD philosophy would often say to another;
“My JKD is not your JKD”
We would say this when we would perform a “move” that did not conform with what was expected by our opponent. We had surprised them, they didn’t see it coming.
What does it mean?
It was Lee’s philosophy.
Many think it was Lee’s fighting technique.
It really isn’t.
JKD is:
Simply the Way of You, the way you perform, study, work – the way you do things – it is uniquely yours.
You may have been taught a certain way to do a task.
But in reality it is your interpretation of what you were taught that makes your efforts uniquely yours.
It is unlike any others who may be attempting the same task.
It is yours.
Yours alone.
How is this like a martial art? This Chinese philosophy?
It’s how you would apply the JKD philosophy, Bruce Lee’s philosophy
To:
Anything – even fighting.
Can it apply to negotiating? To reaching your resolutions?
Yes.
Yes it can.
Stay tuned.
And always adapt.
