Do you know what you want?

Some time ago, I wrote about the need to know what it is we really want.
What DO WE Want???

What do you want?

It’s not always easy to know.

When you are negotiating on behalf of someone, they will usually tell you what they want.
Sometimes they may even want nothing! No changes, just keep everything as is.

To be successful at negotiating anything you have to determine what it is you’re after.
To make the effort successful.

Whenever I meet with an employer I always ask them:

What do you want?
Are you looking to save on expenses?
Are you looking to make your operation more efficient? How so?
What benefits would you like to gain?
What changes in the agreement do you want add or eliminate?

In non negotiations I will write out what it is I’m looking:
To do differently;
To change;
To reduce costs/expenses;
To increase my revenue stream

Remember the whole point becomes how can we work with someone else (an entire workforce or one other person) and get them to do what it is you’ve identified is necessary to make your effort successful. And to also demonstrate to the other side whatever you want will also in some way provide a benefit to them as well.

Getting the answers enables us to plan our strategies:
How to get from “A” to “B” in order to achieve “C”.

It’s what works for me to get what I want – to reach my particular resolution.

Think about it…..
What do you really want?
