I have several desks.

Only one is clean.  By clean  I mean there is no clutter on it. At all.                                           Really.

Do people say “Really” anymore?  I remember being so worldly nodding my head in agreement with someone’s oh so profound statement and saying, “Really.”                         That’s really cool to say.                                                                                                                      Really.                                                                                                                                                                    It. Is.

Back to my clean desk,  occasionally I will leave something on it.                                             Just to make it look like I was there. Working.

My other desks, some in different cities, yes I have desks in 3 cities, and one at home.         If I elaborate further it would appear that I’m bragging.                                                                 All of them are extremely cluttered.                                                                                                           I tell myself that I’m so busy what with one phone call, one phone conference to the next, I just move from one pile of papers to the next.

I think I hate that. I only think so because if I really hated it then logically I would de-clutter them.  But I don’t.

Why is that? I hate clutter. I do. I Really do.                                                                                             My desks don’t reflect that though. Maybe it’s because our perception of hard working people involves them also having cluttered desks.                                                                      Obviously they’re hard working, look at their desks.

And the efficient looking folks, their desks all neat and tidy.  Oh my god, what do they do all day. Nothing?

Maybe that’s why.                                                                                                                                      And maybe next trip to my Springfield office, I’ll dump the trash can on my desk.            Just saying, maybe.
