3 Years later and I’m still Thankful for …

You probably are thinking I am thankful for Turkey.
Apparently, I’ve told alot of my friends that over the years.

I even wrote 3 years ago about the time I didn’t get any…turkey.
See, back in November of 2013 I didn’t get any turkey.
I love turkey. But no, that year got none at all.
What happened?

(I apologize in advance to all my family and friends who have heard me the last several years “mention” the fact that “I didn’t get any turkey dinner at all!”)

This is how it went down on Thanksgiving 2013:

I went to see my mother in law at her apartment complex. We had a nice visit but no food. Then I went to see my daughter Candice and her family. Had a great time but no turkey. She didn’t serve turkey because after our meal she and the family were going to visit her mother in law and family.
She was going to have turkey there.

At that time I still was not worried because then I was going to see my mom and brother.
My mom. She would take care of me.
She always does.

Turkey for sure I thought, except they had ham.
When my mom made the decision to have ham (she doesn’t like turkey) she had told my brother “Candice will take care of her father (me) by having turkey so let’s have ham this year.”

I…kid…you…not.

It wasn’t until a few weeks later when I was talking to Candice I found out she didn’t have turkey either! No her in-laws had …ham.

So we agreed then and there for Thanksgiving 2014 we would have turkey!
Candice loves it too.

My problem solved.
But wait, it got even better!

When I went to visit my mother in law Jean, she wanted to have a turkey dinner with me!
And so we did.
Right before I was to go to Candice’s and have.yes..more turkey!

I told my mom about the no turkey thing in 2013, too.
And guess what she had that year?
Ham…and a turkey too!
Yes!

I still cannot believe my good fortune.
Living the dream…
Really had to pace myself though, but I did it.
mmmm…turkey!

And to be completely honest, that Wednesday before the big day was hair day – my mom’s – so when I brought her back home – my brother had already baked Thanksgiving’s turkey the day before!
Awesome, a day ahead!

So he offered to give me a sample! And, I ate it!

Today 2017, I still love turkey.
But things have changed.
There really is a reason for the day.
To be grateful.
For everyone.

That Thanksgiving in 2014, the one with all the turkey dinners, was also the last I had with Jean, my mother in law. I realize now, that was what it made it so special.
It’s not about the turkey, but who you’re with that day, who you’re thankful for being in your life.

I’m still very grateful for Jean being in my life and that I got to spend that last Thanksgiving day with her.

And I’m grateful for all of you, too!
Happy Thanksgiving!
